Sustainable industry: Steps to net zero you can take today

Co-Curated with

Overview

A net zero future will require fundamental changes to the way industry works, from carbon free energy to new materials and processes. Manufacturing and construction, for example, are responsible for more than 30% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Plastics could result in 56 Gigatons of CO2 emissions by 2050 - 10-13% of our remaining carbon budget - if we don't change our use. To reach net zero, we will need technologies and processes that don't yet exist or are some way off maturity. But there are changes we can make today, with existing industrial methods and technologies that allow us to reduce energy usage, GHG emissions and waste. In this discussion, we will dive into how innovation in manufacturing and packaging is already cutting emissions and waste and how new technologies can contribute to a realistic path for sustainable industry. A net zero future will require fundamental changes to the way we manufacture and build, from carbon free energy to new materials. Many of the technologies and processes we need for this don't yet exist or are a long way off maturity. But there are changes we can make today, with existing industrial methods and technologies that allow us to reduce energy usage, GHG emissions and waste. In this discussion, experts from the manufacturing and technology sectors will discuss some of these possibilities and present a realistic path for sustainable industry.
