Using an AWS-powered chatbot, MetroPlus Health Plan was able to offer help to 54,000 of its members most vulnerable to COVID-19 in just 3 weeks. MetroPlus is a New York City–based nonprofit insurer that serves more than 570,000 members. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit New York, MetroPlus didn’t have the capacity to quickly reach out to vulnerable members. AWS offered to create a technology solution pro bono, developing a chatbot that could reach thousands in a single day using Amazon Lex, Amazon Connect, Amazon Pinpoint, and other AWS services. Using the chatbot, MetroPlus was able to instantly connect 2,400 members who indicated they needed help with physical, social, and emotional support.
