Alan Karthikesalingam is the Research Lead for Google Health in the UK. After studying medicine at the University of Cambridge, Alan trained in vascular surgery. At St George’s University of London, he completed his PhD and led a successful research group investigating outcomes research for medical imaging, new approaches to randomised trials, and the use of routine data to understand care. Alongside clinical practice, he published over 150 peer-reviewed papers, including award-winning first-author studies in the Lancet and the New England Journal of Medicine. At Google and DeepMind he’s published research in machine learning for healthcare in Nature and Nature Medicine. He continues to practice medicine and supervise PhD students with a clinical-academic position in the vascular department of Imperial College, London.
