About Sharon

Professor Sharon Peacock is the Executive Director of the COVID-19 Genomics UK Consortium (COG-UK). This delivers large-scale, whole-genome sequencing of SARS-CoV-2 to Public Health Agencies, the NHS and the UK government. COG-UK generated the data that led to the detection and tracking of the new variant in the UK, as well as other variants of concern. Professor Peacock has published around 500 peer reviewed papers and manages >£38M of funding. She is a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences, a Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology, and an elected Member of EMBO. In 2015, Professor Peacock received a CBE for services to medical microbiology, and in 2018 she won the Unilever Colworth Prize for her outstanding contribution to translational microbiology.
