About Vaughan

Dr Vaughan Lewis FRCPCH

Vaughan trained in Oxford, Bristol and Australia. He was a consultant paediatrician in Exeter from 2002 to 2015 during which time he held clinical management roles including Medical Director. Between 2015 and 2019 he was the NHS South Regional Medical Director for Specialised Commissioning. Since 2019 he has been the Regional Medical Director for NHS England & NHS Improvement in the South East.

As SE Regional Medical Director and CCIO his roles include clinical leadership and improvement support to NHS organisations and Integrated Care Systems, Vaughan is the SRO for a wide range of clinical programmes supporting COVID recovery and Long-Term Plan delivery including system level transformation. The regional medical director role incorporates the Chief Clinical Information Officer (CCIO) role and carries executive responsibility for the digital agenda and oversight and assurance of the regional AHSNs. Vaughan is also the Higher-Level Responsible Officer for the SE region and the regional Caldicott Guardian.
